Welcome to FAB Families. NEW Message
It is with much excitement that I welcome you to this website. Please allow me to introduce FAB Families to you, as well,
as myself.
Fit, Active, Black (FAB) Families is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services Community Partnership to Eliminate
Health Disparities. This grant stems from Healthy People 2010, a federal program that challenges all to take specific steps
towards longevity and healthy living. FAB Families is a coalition of seven community Partners, five of which are principal
community-based, minority-serving health agencies that address disparities within the health issues areas of Diabetes (D)
and Childhood/Adolescent Overweight/Obesity (OO) among African Americans in Saint Petersburg (Florida).
The two overarching goals of Healthy People 2010 are: (1) to increase quality and years of healthy life and (2) to eliminate
health disparities. Although the specific mandate of this grant is focused on the second goal in addressing health disparities,
FAB Families offers programs that increase the quality of health and years of life in the Black population in Saint
Petersburg. The goals and objectives closely follow those in Healthy People 2010.
As for me, my name is Keisha Bell, Esq. In late January, 2008 I accepted the position of Project Manager of FAB Families. I have a deep and sincere desire to ensure that the programs FAB Families provide are of such quality that each participant can honestly say, “It was worth it!” Being a (South) Saint Petersburg native, this Position provides me with an avenue to “give back” to a community that gave and continues to give me so much. As you may know, I am committed to community service through various avenues such as walking for Juvenile Diabetes, Breast Cancer, and (soon-to-be) Sickle Cell; facilitating youth and adult workshops; assisting with various church functions; donating to shelters, etc.. In addition to being a graduate of a Pinellas County Public High School, the University of Central Florida, and Florida State College of Law, I have authored the book entitled, “Emerging…Free”. I share this with you in hopes that you will see that my efforts are pure.
If ever you have a suggestion, question, and/or comment about FAB Families, this website, and/or Programs, please do not
hesitate to contact me! In addition, if you have participated in a FAB Families Program, please share you testimonial with
me! Don’t be surprised if you see it on this website!
It is my desire to make this website a quality resource for you as it relates to FAB Families. There will be article links
for you to read, tips, event listings, etc. PLEASE visit this website weekly! If you have not already done so, tell a
friend/family member about FAB Families. Join us as we are “Living FABulously for Health!”
Sincerely,
Keisha Bell, Esq.
